Mike Leach and his Texas Tech Red Raider football team have returned to work. College football is in the air. With that is mind, it is time to look at the future of Red Raider football. Seventeen players have verbally committed to come to Lubbock and play for Mike Leach. Here is a look at the seventeen players that make up the Texas Tech recruiting class of 2010.
Kadron Boone
Kadron Boone is a 4 star wide reciever out of Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, FL. He is 6'1" 197 pounds. He runs a 4.6 40 and possesses great hands. Kadron is also good in the open field after the catch. He is currently rated as the #17 wide reciever in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Jackson Richards
Jackson Richards is a 4 star defensive end out of Carroll High School in Southlake, TX. He is 6'4" 235 pounds. He does not blow you away in any aspect of the game but plays all situations equally well and is guy whose motor never stops running. May need a little more bulk at the college level. He is currently rated as the #33 defensive end in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Shawn Corker
Shawn Corker is a 3 star wide reciever out of Cardinals Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He is 6'1" 180 pounds. He has decent speed, runs a 10.9 100 meters and a 22.8 200 meters. He has good but not great hands and has a knack for making big plays. He is currently rated as the #49 wide reciever in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Beau Carpenter
Beau Carpenter is a 3 star offensive tackle out of Sulphur Springs High School in Sulphur Springs, TX. He is 6'6" 227 and runs a 4.96 40. He is fundamentally sound in technique but really needs to put on some weight at the next level. Expect him to redshirt and really hit the weight room, once he gets to Lubbock. He is currently rated as the #38 offensive tackle in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Delans Griffin
Delans Griffin is a three star running back out of Clinton High School in Clinton, OK. He is 5'9" 176 pounds. He possesses good speed and elusive start/stop moves. He also has good hands which will be key in terms to Texas Tech's passing game. He is currently rated as the #32 running back in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Desmond Martin
Desmond Martin is a 3 star safety out of Stony Point High School in Round Rock, TX. He is 6'1" 177 pounds and runs a 4.78 40. He is a very solid defensive back and has a lot of skill. He is limited by his lack of speed. He is currently rated as the #44 safety in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Denton Simek
Denton Simek is a 3 star offensive guard out of Prague High School in Prague, OK. He is 6'4" 260 pounds. He is a little undersized but extremely athletic. If he can put a few more pounds, he might be able to play tackle at the college level. He is currently rated as the #28 offensive guard in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Coby Coleman
Coby Coleman is a 3 star defensive tackle out of Frankston High School in Frankston, TX. He is 6'3" 280 pounds. This an interesting prospect. He also plays tight end in high school. He is a solid run stopper but needs to improve on pass rush skills. He is currently rated as the #53 defensive tackle in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Zac Winbush
Zac Winbush is 3 star safety out of Samuel Clemens High in Schertz, TX. He is 6'1" 205 pounds. He plays linebacker in high school but is more likely to play safety at Texas Tech. He has good quickness and recognition but needs to work on his tackling. He is currently rated as the #54 safety in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Aaron Spikes
Aaron Spikes is a three star running back out of L.G. Pinkston High School in Dallas, TX. He is 5'9" 182 pounds. He is more of an elusive back and lacks the power to break many tackles. Best suited to a spread offense like the Red Raiders run. He is currently rated as the #65 running back in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Tre'Vonte Porter
Tre'Vante Porter is a three star safety out of Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, OK. He is 5'11" and 185 pounds. He is a solid defensive back and special teams guy. He has also played wide reciever but lacks the burst to play that position in college but does not good hands. He is currently rated as the #60 safety in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Brandon Smith
Brandon Smith is a 3 star corner out of Central Lafourche High School in Raceland, LA. He is 6'1" 170 pounds. He has speed and covers the deep ball well but struggles with his footwork and needs to add some bulk. He is currently rated as the #43 corner in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Urell Johnson
Urell Johnson is a 3 star corner from O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans, LA. He is 6'0" 175 pounds. He is very athletic but needs to work on his technique. Projects as more of a safety than a corner. He is currently rated as the #47 corner in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Kendrick Dial
Kendrick Dial is a 3 star defensive end out of Sulphur Springs High Schoo in Sulphur Springs, TX. He is 6'5" 215 pounds. This is a bit of a project kind of player. He has to tools to succeed but needs more bulk and better technique. He is currently rated as the #92 defensive end in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Scotty Young
Scotty Young is a quarterback out of Billy Ryan High School in Denton, TX. He is 6'2" 180 pounds. He is strictly a shotgun quarterback who makes accurate short to mid range throws and makes good decisions. His high school offense is based on the Texas Tech offense, so he would be a good fit in Lubbock. He is currently rated as the #79 quarterback in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
Russell Polk
Russell Polk is a two star safety out of Carter High School in Dallas, Texas. He is 5'10" 185 pounds. He is a tough defender and has good speed. Needs to work on being more consistent in his tackling. Would be a good canidate for special teams. He is currently rated as the #125 safety in the 2010 class according to ESPN.com.
James Polk
